DNS settings

Primary DNS

It can be given by both domain and by IP-address. AMV works with DNS-servers only via UDP protocol. The access time to DNS-servers, which the program uses by default, is 2-3 seconds for some users. Apply to your Internet provider for its DNS-server address, if you want to shorten this period till half a second. Windows can get this information automatically sometimes. And most of providers use this feature to guard user from superfluous settings. AMV tries to determine DNS settings by itself and show them in “Windows DNS Settings”.  You can also determine DNS-servers addresses independently using IPCONFIG utility with key /ALL under Windows NT, or using WINIPCFG utility under Windows 95 or Windows 98. That are utilities of operation system. Also you can take DNS addresses from DNS servers list.

Secondary DNS

Can be empty. It is used only if the primary DNS-server has not answered to the request positively.

Direct delivering

For example, direct delivery to server gorlach.koenig.su for address alex@gorlach.koenig.su . Even if the direct delivery is set, it is used only when DNS-servers have not returned the addresses of mail servers. Using this option IS NOT RECOMMENDED – you can get incorrect results. You may use it only in research purposes.

Don’t use internal DNS cache

If you have two or more emails from one domain (e.g. a@hotmail.com and b@hotmail.com) in your mailing list, then the program will retrieve addresses of SMTP servers for second email from internal DNS cache. The cache is reset at each “Run Check”. Your also can turn off caching by checking this option.

Windows DNS Settings

Information in this window is updated every second automatically. Program tries to determine DNS settings of Windows by itself and show them in this window. If you have dial-up connection then establish the connection at first in order to AMV can determine DNS settings. You can also determine DNS-servers addresses independently using IPCONFIG utility with key /ALL under Windows NT, or using WINIPCFG utility under Windows 95 or Windows 98. They are utilities of operation system.

Automatically update DNS settings

Automatically replace primary and secondary servers by system DNS, if they are found. Settings check and update happen every second. DNS settings not updated when program settings window is opened.
