In e-mails apparently sent by shoe-bomb suspect Richard Reid before he boarded a Paris-Miami flight, he indicated he would be destroying an airplane and, after being thwarted from boarding an earlier flight, asked one recipient in Pakistan if he should “go again.” The mail was found on the hard drives of computers used by the 28-year-old Briton while he was in Paris, French news media reported Saturday ... »

Junk e-mail, also known as spam, has attracted the attention of Utah legislators. Although a number of Republicans expressed fears about Democratic Rep. Patrice Arent's proposed legislation to set restrictions on unsolicited commercial e-mail, members of the Legislature's Public Utilities and Technology Committee unanimously approved the bill Wednesday. "We can't stop spam, but we can limit it . . . We've got to do something and this is an important first step," Arent, D-Salt Lake, told the committee. ... »

Unsolicited e-mail invading our computers |
Since the computer on my desk in the Star Courier newsroom was hooked up to the Internet a few months ago, it has become a first-thing-in-the-morning ritual to remove from three to 20 unsolicited e-mails having nothing to do with news, not sent directly to anyone here at the newspaper, and always dealing with an easy way to borrow money or improve your sex life. Some initial screens are quite graphic and I can see the concern of parents over Internet use by their children. ... »

Andersen releases set of internal e-mails |
Arthur Andersen released a set of internal communications on Monday night as it sought to explain the role of one of its lawyers in the destruction of thousands of documents by the firm's auditors at Enron. The internal communications were sent by e-mail four days before the energy trading company announced a huge reduction on its net worth in October. Andersen said the exchanges within the firm did not clear it of misconduct, explaining that it was disclosing them in the interest of "getting the facts and taking appropriate actions in the Enron matter." ... »

Travelocity Takes E-Mail Inhouse to Boost Personalization |
Travel marketing portal Travelocity.com Inc. is bringing its e-mail marketing inhouse to try to offer greater personalization to members. Get a two-way fix for e-mail cravings |
Ever find yourself on the road wishing that you could quickly check to see if a particular e-mail has come in? If so, a two-way e-mail device might just be what you need. If you are an e-mail addict like me, two-way e-mail devices offer the best fix for this constant craving. Three features make this a killer application. First, I can receive a copy of all the e-mails that come into my office e-mail box. Second, I can reply to and send e-mails using my company e-mail address. That way, contacts don't know that I'm not in the office when I correspond with them. Finally, these wireless devices feature an "always on" mode that lets me receive and send e-mails continuously. While these features may be available elsewhere, two-way e-mail devices pull them together most effectively. ... »
