Tenzing Communications Inc. of Seattle said its in-flight e-mail service will be offered to the corporate and private aircraft market through Baker Electronics Inc., a well-established installer of communications and entertainment systems for aviation. Tenzing said its software, distributed by Baker as CabinLink, will enable passengers using laptops or on-board workstations to securely send and receive e-mail and browse up-to-the-minute news, business, sports and other information. The software is installed on Baker's CabinLAN server, which connects to any of the existing air-to-ground communications systems. ... »

  [  March 19, 2002  ]     Auto dealers make e-mail shoppers wait
Attention online car shoppers: Unless you live near a dealership and offer more information than just your name, count on waiting up to eight hours to get your questions answered. In a sign that the Internet might be losing its sales luster, more dealership owners are allowing e-mails from potential customers to sit unopened longer than they did in 1999. Owners also are more skeptical of ``car buying leads'' supplied by independent online car selling businesses such as AutoTrader.com, a survey released Tuesday indicates. ... »

  [  March 19, 2002  ]     E-Mail Marketing Sends Direct Mail Packing
Want to turn spam into steak? Unsolicited e-mail ads are classed with spam, the scourge of the Internet, but permission-based e-mail marketing can ignite response rates eight times greater than that elicited by bulk e-mailings and direct-mail campaigns, GartnerG2 said today. ... »

  [  March 18, 2002  ]     Send an e-mail, go to jail
Stephen Martin of Sonoma says he's not angry about being only the second person brought to trial under the U.S. Economic Espionage Act. Nor is he peeved about the year he spent in federal prison as a convicted industrial spy. The thing that gets Martin's bacon sizzling is that people still have a totally cavalier attitude about e-mail. ... »

  [  March 17, 2002  ]     Montana spam e-mail investigation near end
After a yearlong investigation, state officials are almost ready to file charges against one of the most notorious Internet spam operators in the United States. "Internet Information Services are spam e-mailers who specialize in spam scams," said Cort Jensen, an attorney with the Office of Consumer Protection in Helena. "They are under investigation from my office for numerous problems." ... »

  [  March 16, 2002  ]     E-moting by E-Mail
Ever had an argument via e-mail? :( Wanna have one now? Well, be very careful. E-mail disagreements are not only more likely to escalate than person-to-person discussions, it seems they also leave a written trail for hard feelings to follow. A couple of little-noticed new studies indicate, first, the growing importance of e-mail communications in everyday business and personal lives beyond the superficial "How R U?" messages and, second, the invisible dangers increasingly inherent in the informal, intimate and yet strangely disconnected format of e-mail. As the use and depth of e-mail mature, the implications for society and individual relationships mount too. ... »

  [  March 14, 2002  ]     E-mails protest plight of boy, 10
In only three days, Gov. Jeb Bush and the head of the state Department of Children & Families were inundated with more than 63,000 e-mails from people opposed to a Florida law that prevents gay people from adopting, according to the ACLU. And that is just the beginning of a massive multi-media campaign the ACLU plans to open to full-throttle today to build support for its fight to overturn Florida's gay adoption ban. ... »

  [  March 14, 2002  ]     Tanner: Officer's wife sent 'lewd' e-mail
An e-mail that contained an image of bare female breasts entered the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office's computer system after it was sent there by the wife of a police lieutenant as a joke, Sheriff P.J. Tanner said Wednesday. County Council has asked 14th Judicial Circuit Solicitor Randolph Murdaugh III to look into whether lewd images on e-mails traced to the computer of Deputy County Administrator Buz Boehm violated state law. ... »
